About the event
Knowledge of music in the Lithuanian nobleman’s palace dates back about 1000 years. The musical ideas of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism reached Lithuania thanks to monks and travelling musicians. However, at the very end of the 18th century, after the Third Partition, Lithuania became part of the Russian Empire. Lithuania’s musical life slowed down…During this difficult period, it was the estates of Lithuania’s nobility that became the focal points of music, not only where orchestras played, but also where music schools were established and where the most talented children could study. The nobility’s admiration and attention to music was exceptional.
